Today, the Florida Film Critics Circle announced who they will be voting for in the best of cinema for 2017. These are the choices 25 members of the organization, including this writer, will consider for the title of the greatest in 18 categories, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, etc. But we also consider Best First Feature by a director and the coveted Pauline Kael Breakout Award, not to mention technical awards like art direction and visual effects. As the vice chair of the organization, I also wrote the release announcing the nominees, which you can read on the FFCC’s site here. I’ll save my own personal musings about the end of the year with a top 10 a bit later. For now, here’s the ballot. Who would you vote for? The list of winners will be announced on Saturday.

So that is what we are considering. I nominated several movies and talent that were not included. This personal nomination ballot can also offer insight into what I personally thought was great about movies in 2017. On a side note, I was going to consider Dustin Hoffman for a Best Actor nomination, but after reading an essay from yet another one of his accusers, I deemed him unworthy. As vice chairman of the FFCC, I’ve seen the ballots, and no one else nominated him either. I won’t speak for the rest the group, but I can tell you I have no qualms not nominating sexual predators in the industry. I hope they keep weeding them out and finally change the culture. That said, on to what I suggested for nomination.
