The Florida Film Critics Circle released its nominations for 2018’s best films and performances of the year on Wednesday. Coming out on top was The Favourite with nine nominations. You can see the final ballot we are voting on here.
As chair of the organization I had equal say in the final nominees the members are considering. The Favourite is an excellent film and shines for its performances and writing, but if my ballot would be the way the group voted, If Beale Street Could Talk would top the nominees with Annihilation followed closely behind. If you read my Key West Film Festival recap, you also read my review of the new movie by Barry Jenkins, an extraordinary work of cinematic poetry that I felt was even stronger than his last Oscar winning movie Moonlight.
Below you will find all my nominees for the year-end in movie watching plus screening details of where you can see both The Favourite and If Beale Street Could Talk.
The FFCC will announce the winners on Friday.
