Today the Florida Film Critics Circle announced the winners of the best films and performances on film in 2017. How does this writer feel about it? It’s hard. As the vice-chairman this was a difficult year for the group. We had to make several key critics emeritus members including former Miami Herald critics Connie Ogle and Rene Rodriguez. This meant if they chose to vote they were only designated as tie breakers. They were not the only South Florida critics who sat out this year of voting. Also missing from influence were Miami Art Zine’s Ruben Rosario and Reuben Periera of Film Frontier. This led to some tight races and some staunch defenders of opinion. We should have announced winners on Friday, but we were delayed to just now.
Below you will find the full list of winners and my own ballot. Let the difference speak for itself and stay tuned of the IndieEthos personal favorites of 2017 before year’s end. We still also have another key survey to participate in for International Cinephile Society. That won’t happen until early next year.
